Prone Quadriceps Stretch
Improves quadriceps mobility and knee-flexion tolerance when anterior-thigh tightness limits comfortable motion.
How to Do the Exercise
Setup
Lie on your stomach with both legs relaxed. Bend the working knee and use your hand or a strap for gentle assistance if needed.
How to perform it
Bring the heel toward the buttocks until you feel a comfortable stretch through the front of the thigh. Keep the pelvis down and the low back relaxed. Hold, then slowly release.
Dosage
2 sets, 20–30 second hold, Rest 30 seconds
What to Focus On
Key cues
- Keep the pelvis down
- Let the low back stay relaxed
- Move only to a comfortable stretch
- Breathe normally during the hold
Why use it
Improves quadriceps mobility and knee-flexion tolerance when anterior-thigh tightness limits comfortable motion.
When to use it
Useful when quadriceps tightness or limited knee flexion is restricting comfortable movement.
Common mistakes
- Arching the low back
- Pulling aggressively into knee flexion
- Lifting or rotating the pelvis
- Holding the breath
Know When to Progress or Scale Back
Use your movement quality and symptom response to decide whether the current version still fits.
Progress when
- The current hold feels comfortable and controlled
- You can maintain the position without pelvic or low-back compensation
- Symptoms settle appropriately afterward
Scale back if
- The stretch produces sharp or escalating knee pain
- You cannot keep the pelvis controlled
- Pain or swelling remains meaningfully worse afterward
Was This the Right Challenge Today?
Use the same three signals that matter inside Therapeutic Edge recovery plans: how challenging the exercise felt, how well you controlled it, and how your body responded afterward.
Answer after the exercise and, when possible, after you know your later or next-day response. This checks one exercise today; it does not change or save a rehab plan.
Find the Knee Rehab Path That Fits Your Situation
This exercise can fit more than one knee-rehab situation. Choose the path that matches why you are using it, then decide whether you want free guidance or a plan that follows you over time.
