Knee Extension Mobilization
Learn how to do a staggered-stance knee extension mobilization to improve knee straightening and control, with setup, dosage, cues, and adjustment guidance.
How to Do the Exercise
Setup
Stand in a comfortable staggered stance with the working leg forward and a stable surface nearby for support.
How to perform it
Shift your weight toward the front leg while gently straightening the working knee. Pause in a comfortable extension position, then return to the starting position with control.
Dosage
2 sets, 8–10 repetitions, Tempo 2-5-2, Rest 30 seconds; use light hand support as needed
What to Focus On
Key cues
- Keep the heel planted
- Gently straighten the knee without forcefully locking it
- Shift the whole body rather than only leaning the trunk
Why use it
Restores knee-extension mobility while integrating comfortable weight acceptance in standing.
When to use it
Useful when knee extension remains limited and standing mobility work is appropriate.
Common mistakes
- Forcing the knee backward
- Lifting the heel
- Using a stance or range that makes balance unsafe
Know When to Progress or Scale Back
Use your movement quality and symptom response to decide whether the current version still fits.
Progress when
- You can reach the available end range without forcing the knee
- You need only light hand support
- Symptoms settle appropriately after the exercise
Scale back if
- Pain or swelling remains meaningfully worse afterward
- The knee feels unstable or buckles
- You need heavy arm support to control the movement
Was This the Right Challenge Today?
Use the same three signals that matter inside Therapeutic Edge recovery plans: how challenging the exercise felt, how well you controlled it, and how your body responded afterward.
Answer after the exercise and, when possible, after you know your later or next-day response. This checks one exercise today; it does not change or save a rehab plan.

This exercise can fit more than one knee-rehab situation. Choose the path that matches why you are using it, then decide whether you want free guidance or a plan that follows you over time.
